A Recollection of the Fall
The war, if you can believe it, was not very memorable. The fighting lasted for so short a time that I can barely remember the specifics. But the fall. The fall is what I remember most. The wind chilled me to the bone. My brethren screamed in anger, and in anguish. We cursed our father. I tried reaching out my hand for… for hers, but I couldn’t find it. I heard the sound of splashing below me. I thought perhaps we were bound to land in a body of water. And though it was a lake, I was very much taken by surprise when I landed in the liquid and my body began to burn. I don’t know how long we were in that body of magma. We drifted along while in agonizing pain, screaming for some sort of help, but no one was listening. We might as well have remained quiet. We continued drifting until we reached a rocky shore. His majesty managed to claw his way out of the sea along with a few of my other brethren. But not all of us had the strength to pull ourselves out of the magma. I remember a hand

Furcas: Tell me, do you feel this feeling now? Octavia: Actually… yeah. I do. Furcas: How does it make you feel? Octavia: … Cold. Octavia crossed her arms and pulled her hands under her cloak. Furcas: I don’t see anyone behind you, but I sense the disturbance in your mind. Octavia: I keep telling myself he’s not actually behind me. I know he isn’t. The problem is I know where he really is. He’s in my head. And it’s… Octavia struggled to speak. Tears rolled down her face. Octavia: It’s so much worse. Furcas: Oh, you poor girl. Please. Come here. Furcas held out his arms. Octavia hugged him, and he hugged back. ----- Octavia: I want to know how to fight. I know it’s weird, he’s in my head, so I can’t… you know. Furcas: I can see the logic. I think, despite this presence being within your own subconscious, knowing how to defend yourself from physical, tangible, threats may alleviate some of your anxiety. Your mother actually trained with me for a time to learn
Lilith found herself surrounded by water. She could see land off in the distance in three directions, but so far away. She had never seen a body of water this large before. It was tinted red ever so slightly, though something told her this was not its true form. Where was she? Last she remembered, she had walked away from the center of Eden into the forest and laid down on a plenty of fallen leaves. Some inclination she could not explain had her look to the sky. Three angels flew above her. Their names came to her in her mind. It was like the knowledge of them was granted rather than told. They were Senoy, Sansenoy, and Semangelof. Senoy: God has told us his will. If you return to Adam, you shall be forgiven. Lilith turned her head from them. She didn’t want to listen. It was clear they were sent to make her feel shame. But she did not. Nor did she have any will to return to Adam. Sansenoy: If not, God commands that one hundred of those you call your children will die every
Gremory: You’ve probably heard about providence before, right? Octavia: Right. It’s an intangible concept that’s all about how the future is made of probabilities. Gremory: You’re on the right track. Providence is generally considered the natural flow of existence that is determined by a near infinite amount of causes and effects from a near infinite amount of sources. Octavia: Some of the family think they can affect providence through their own sheer will. Gremory: It’s a little more complicated than that. How to explain… Gremory retrieved a cigarette from a pocket. Gremory: You’ll have to excuse me, Octavia. I’m about to get real deep and detailed, and I find I do that best when I’m doing a little routine I’ve come up with. It’s not exactly professional of a teacher, but just follow along the best you can. Gremory stepped out onto the balcony and leaned against the railing, then lit the cigarette. She took a whiff and blew out seven smoke rings while looking at the

After Bael had adjourned the council meeting, the members broke off into their usual cliques and went about their business. Some left, some stayed. Of the latter were Princes Vassago and Stolas. Stolas: That was a short meeting. Vassago: All the better. What needs to be done, some of it anyway, is being done. Stolas: Asmoday taking an interest in this is… odd. Vassago: I don’t much understand it either. I know he has his ups and downs. Times where he couldn’t care less, and other times where he shows a soft side. But this… He doesn’t even know the victims. Stolas: Maybe… maybe he does. He seemed angered. When he spoke up to Malphas, he spoke like a man who’s been wronged. Vassago: You’re not suggesting he had something to do with it, are you? Stolas: No. This whole thing has an air of vengeance. Vengeance almost always becomes a cycle. I think whoever struck at the circus seeking revenge ended up wronging Asmoday. And now he’s seeking revenge on them. Vassago: I know you

The Stray Kitten Returns to the Box
King Purson saw something in the corner of his eyes. He gestured with his head for King Beleth to look. When he did, he saw an orange tabby in a grey hoodie, his daughter, approaching. Beleth swung his tail up and down in disapproval. Beleth: And there she is. The stray kitten returns to the box. Azdizen: Yeah yeah, Dad. The “stray kitten” who’s a grown woman by over four thousand years. Beleth: I thought I advised you not to accompany Camio to find Stolas. Azdizen: Uncle Aym was already following him, and you know how he gets. I thought I’d balance the scales. Purson: He blew open the door didn’t he? Azdizen: And the wall. I told him not to, but he did. So he didn’t come with us in the car. Purson: Yeah, I could tell he fucked up just by the way he walked in earlier. Beleth: Speaking of which, any particular reason you came by car? The council wanted Stolas here as soon as possible. Azdizen: Stolas insisted. Beleth: For what reason? Azdizen pointed across the

Moxxie's Maddening Memory
Millie: Moxxie! Wait up! Moxxie stopped. Millie: C’mon! You know Blitz doesn’t mean anything he says! Moxxie: I know. We actually talked about that when we were captured. You remember? What was the place called? Millie: DHORKS. Which, thinking about it, is just dorks but with an H. Moxxie: Anyway. That’s not what’s got me upset. Millie: Well then what is it? Moxxie: I don’t wanna talk about it. I get so angry and confused at myself just thinking about it. It’s complicated. Millie hugged him. Millie: Not even a little hint? Moxxie couldn’t help but chuckle a bit. Moxxie: Alright, how’s this? Moxxie swept Millie off her feet and held her in his arms. Millie: Woah! They teach you that in the legions? Moxxie: No. Loving you did. Millie: …Moxxie, that’s really chee- Moxxie kissed Millie deeply. She wrapped her arms around him. ???: Ahem! The two broke it off and looked at who had spoken. It was a much taller incubus, in chef attire, staring down at them.
Stolas led Octavia to a corner away from everyone else. Octavia: So what do you wanna talk to me about? Stolas: I have to ask. Stolas cleared his throat. Stolas: When I killed our attackers at the palace, did that scare you? Octavia: Honestly… Yeah. You barely ever get angry. And that… I couldn’t believe it was you, at first. Stolas knelt down to equal height with his daughter. Stolas: I want you to understand that I did that to protect you. I would never, never hurt you. Never. Octavia: I know, Dad. Stolas: I think a lot about what happened. I keep thinking about how I could’ve killed less, or not at all. I just… panicked, I guess. It’s because protecting you was my priority that I resorted to, uh, that. I’m sorry that I scared you. Octavia: Actually, when your shield broke and the gunshots stopped, I thought they killed you. I think that scared me more. Stolas: Really? Octavia: I mean I was pretty sure none of them had blessed guns. But who knows what they
Stolas, Octavia and Loona joined the others in the lobby. Blitzo: Loonie! There you are! Blitzo put his arm around Loona’s leg and pointed around the room. Blitzo: Look at all these freaky fucks! How are they so rich!? Who would pay money to a guy whose face looks like melted cheese! Loona: Uh… Blitzo: No, wait, that’s a good point. I’d pay him. Loona: Right… Stolas: That’s Earl Bifrons. He specializes in a lot of the same arts as I do. Blitzo: Okay, but what about that guy!? That’s just straight up a cat! Azdizen put her hand on top of Blitzo’s head. It was unreasonably cold. Azdizen: That would be my dad. You know, King Beleth? Blitzo: …And I’m sure he’s a very wonderful cat. Azdizen lifted her hand and left to go speak to her father. Blitzo: Oh! What about that one! Stolas: You mean Duke Saleos? Moxxie: Oh crumbs. Blitzo: What? Moxxie looked to where Blitzo was pointing and saw Saleos look at him. He turned to the side and covered his face.

The group all entered the limousine and took their seats. One of the soldiers took the driver's seat. Another soldier sat in the passenger's seat across from the driver. Gun at the ready. Duke Aym was about to enter, but Azdizen put out her hand to stop him. Aym: What? What issss thisss? Azdizen: You made Hiram blow open that door. You almost got a bunch of Camio’s guys killed. I told you not to blow the door open. So you also disobeyed my orders. You’re finding your own way to Bael’s palace. Aym: But that’ssss- Azdizen: And stop talking to me with your snake head! I don’t like it! Aym’s serpentine head morphed into that of a domestic cat. Azdizen: …Fuck you. Azdizen slammed the door closed. Azdizen: Alright! We’re good! Let’s go! Stolas leaned over to the window to the front of the limo and whispered to the driver. Stolas: Please, do take your time. If you understand my meaning, soldier. Driving soldier: I do, your majesty. The car began moving along at a
